Obituary

Milton Kenneth Nixon

Milton came into this world on December 12, 1944 in Hamtramck, MI. The fourth of five children born to Lew C. Nixon and Ludie O. (Parker) Nixon. Known as “Punch” to his family and friends. His education began in the Hamtramck Public School system. In 1950, the family moved to Detroit where he attended Doty Elementary and Durfee Jr. High. Returning to Hamtramck in 1959, he then completed his education at Hamtramck High, graduating in 1963. While attending H.H.S, he became a standout player on the varsity football team. During his 3 years on the squad, he helped lead the team to 3 consecutive undefeated conference titles. Chosen as Co-Captain by his peers in his senior year, selected as 1st Team All-Conference Offensive Guard in both jr. and sr. years. Milt also gained All-State and All-Suburban Recognition. After graduation, he decided to fulfill his Military Obligation by entering the U.S. Navy. While serving in the Military, his shipmates referred to him as “Nick” (his 2nd nickname). After proudly serving 3 years during the Vietnam war, he was honorably discharged and gained employment with the then Michigan Bell Telephone Co. In 1970, he became a Fire Fighter with the River Rouge Fire Department, retiring in 1994 with the rank of Chief Engineer. Milt was an avid Ohio State football fan, he also enjoyed comedic movies and T.V. programs. He would often say “When you’re laughing, you’re not mad at anyone or anything.”

Preceded in death by both parents and all four siblings. Milt is survived by longtime companion Debra, Sons Marc (Tenisa) Nixon, Marlen Nixon, and Jamie Campeau. Two grandchildren Marc Jr. and Taylor Nixon. In-laws Carolyn Nixon, Joe (Pat) Campeau, Lester (Charlotte) Campeau, Kevin (Patty) Campeau, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
