Fairview Cemetery sustained some damage as a result of storms that passed through the area on Sunday.

Trees toppled over, branches broke and as a result some headstones were unfortunately damaged or broken.

For many families, a headstone is a way to remember and honor loved ones who have passed away. So when a hurricane like the one we witnessed Sunday rolls through, what can be done to replace a loved one's headstone that may have been damaged. We spoke with Kathy Maroney, department manager at Fairview Cemetery, who said that while the cemetery is not responsible for replacing the stone, you do have different options.

Sometimes homeowner's insurance may cover a damaged headstone or grave. Another option is to replace the stone at your own expense or possibly repair it yourself if the damage is light enough. Maroni told us that they are working to contact the families of those with damaged headstones and are working with monument companies to try to replace damaged or broken headstones.
