Mount Auburn Cemetery named one of the best places to see fall foliage in America by Yelp

CAMBRIDGE - A historic cemetery near Boston is one of the best places in all of America to see the leaves change color, according to Yelp. The Yelp website ranked Mount Auburn Cemetery No. 4 on its list of "Best Places to See Fall Foliage in the United States."

Bordering Cambridge and Watertown, the cemetery was established in 1831 and is a National Historic Landmark. At the center of the cemetery is the Washington Tower, which rises 125 feet above the Charles River, offering stunning panoramic views of Boston.

Cemetery President David Barnett told WBZ-TV back in 2021 that this beautiful space was meant to provide a special connection between the dead and the living.

"Our founders were visionary in every way," he said. "It was envisioned that the cemetery would serve as a place for the departed but also be a place of inspiration for the living, and this was part of that vision."

Reviewers on Yelp say the sights are breathtaking.

"The foliage in New England is amazing, and this place is a prime example of how beautiful it can be," said one.

Yelp compiled its list by paying attention to places whose user reviews frequently include terms related to fall foliage, such as "fall leaves" and "changing leaves," and then ranked them by volume and quality of reviews.

First place went to Central Park Conservancy in New York City. Second was Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine. Flume Gorge in Lincoln, New Hampshire, took 13th place.
