Susan Bucklini, the swimmer who was the first victim of the movie "Jaws", has died at the age of 77

Ms. Bucklini, a stuntwoman, appeared in the scary opening scene of the 1975 blockbuster in which she is attacked by a white shark.

Susan Bacchini, the actress and stuntwoman whose portrayal of the violent death of the first shark attack victim in the opening scene of the blockbuster movie "Jaws" terrified viewers, died Saturday at her home in California. She was 77 years old.

Her agent, Sean Clark, confirmed the death, saying she suffered a heart attack. He did not specify where in California she lived.

In the 1975 film "Jaws", directed by Steven Spielberg, Ms. Bucklini is remembered for a scene in which she played skinny diver Chrissy Watkins, who runs down the beach and dives into the water for a night swim.

The tranquil scene is shattered when she is suddenly pulled underwater. She screams as she is violently tormented by an invisible white shark and desperately tries to grab hold of a ringing buoy, but is pulled underwater one last time.

According to The Daily Jaws, a website dedicated to the "phenomenon, history, legacy and craft" of the movie "Jaws", Ms. Bucklini was strapped into a harness for filming. The Palm Beach Post reported that Ms. Bucklini was wearing jeans with metal plates sewn into the sides to which cables were attached.
