TickTocker, who chronicled her journey with metastatic sarcoma, died at the age of 31, releasing a final video with the words "I've passed away."
TickTocker Kimberley Nix, who chronicled her three-year journey with metastatic sarcoma, has died at the age of 31.
As a final farewell, Nicks posted a final video on her TikTok page addressed to her 148,000 subscribers, "If you see this message, I have passed away peacefully".
Nix, who worked as a resident physician, was diagnosed with palliative sarcoma at age 28, according to her TikTok account. Since then, she has been using the platform to raise awareness about sarcoma cancer, a group of cancers that start in the bones and soft tissues, according to the Mayo Clinic.
In her farewell video she said: "I am a resident physician, trained in internal medicine, have lived a wonderful life and am very proud of it. Those who know me know that I love my pets, my husband and makeup backwards, especially my husband and of course all my family and friends".
"In 2021, I had the opportunity to start making TikTok videos, and I never thought they would become anything special. My goal was to spread awareness about sarcoma cancer, and we have been successful. We have reached great heights in sarcoma awareness", she explained.
"One of the things that has been most important in getting to know you all better is sharing my own journey, and on my TikTok page, I shared my journey from when my disease was potentially curable.... I shared how I went through six different lines of experimental and non-experimental therapies", she said.
"I talked about how we went through different challenges with cancer and how we overcame them, and also about love, joy and gratitude, because in this journey, being grateful to people in the little moments, those little bits of your day, like that warm first sip of tea in the morning or feeling the fresh snow on your face, is the most beautiful thing".
She also captured herself crossing off items on her wish list, from getting engaged and married to a trip to New York City, where she had a "luxurious vacation" that reminded her of the TV series "Gossip Girl" and saw a musical on Broadway.
Nicks has also enjoyed trips to the mountains, San Francisco wine country and seeing some of her favorite artists including Taylor Swift on her Era's Tour, Coldplay and Noah Kahan.
"Throughout this time, my job, my husband's job was so supportive and he was able to be with me a lot. My parents were often here supporting me, and support is so wonderful", she said.
Nix cried as she spoke of her husband.
"The only thing that saddens me when I die is the realization that we didn't get to grow old together. Everything else is quite bearable because it's the only thing that really matters", she says.
In her video, she said that she feels "at peace" with her life and feels grateful for the people in her life, enjoying the daily little moments and her mission on TikTok.
"If participating in this event helped me in any way, I accomplished my goal. If sarcoma awareness is raised, I have achieved my goal", she said.
"This community has meant the world to me. I will miss you, TikTok. I love you all", Nix finished her video. "Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity. I'm crying with happiness because you all helped me find so much meaning at the end of my life".
Nicks' husband, Michael McIsaac, wrote on TikTok Wednesday, "My beautiful and selfless wife, my unconditional support and guiding light, and the purest soul in the world, passed away today".
He said his wife overcame hardship and tragedy with "grace and kindness", "loved the unlovable" and "healed the sick" in her all too short life.
"I tried to learn everything I could from the biggest inspiration I've ever known. Where does all your empathy come from? Your work ethic? Your ability to seize every moment? I didn't have enough time, but I wouldn't have a hundred lives. I can't imagine how she managed to fit it all into one life, so short as it turned out", he said.
"I am eternally grateful to have been your husband, and I feel so much better for having known you. I'm shattered into a billion pieces. I love you Kim", he concluded his message.
In another message published on Thursday, he said: "Yesterday was the worst day of my life, but somehow, thanks to some deeply dear friends and the connection I felt throughout the day, we made it through. Today is not much better, but I think we'll get through it as well".
McIsaac said he was stunned by the reaction to his wife's death.
"You have sent me your light and love from every corner of the globe. It's easy to believe - Kim reached her ultimate goal, leaving the world a better place than she found it - but I can't believe how many of you care about me. I'm touched".
