Rakim Lubin, Former UConn men's basketball team player, has died at the age of 28
Former UConn men's basketball player Rakim Lubin, who played for the Huskies during the 2014-15 season, has passed away. He was 28 years old.
Lubin, nicknamed "The Rock" in part due to his physique and formidable style of play, grew up in Gadsden, AL. He was a three-star recruit at Buford High School in Georgia, where he earned Georgia Sportswriters 3A Player of the Year and first-team all-state and all-region honors. He chose Kevin Ollie and the Huskies team over Auburn and Georgia Tech.
The 6-foot-8-inch forward played in 24 games for UConn, averaging 1 point and 1.2 rebounds in 6.5 minutes per game. Before his sophomore year, Lubin transferred to Cal State Northridge, where he played one season in 2016-17, averaging 8.5 points and 5.2 rebounds. He finished his career at LSU-Shreveport.
Lubin died Sunday, according to a memorial page set up by Prestige Memorial Funeral Home in Gadsden. No cause of death was given.
He was the youngest of seven children.
