Obituary

Betty Sue Andrews, born on December 11, 1935, in Pine Torch, Alabama, passed away on February 11, 2026, in Detroit, Michigan, at the age of 90.

Betty was a devoted and loving woman who cherished her family and faith above all else. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Morris Andrews, her grandson Aaron, her parents, Newton and Liley Hayes, and her siblings Hodge, Jewel, Luke, Lynch, Sadie, and Sally.

Her surviving family includes her beloved children: Ricky James Andrews (Theresa), Michael Anthony Andrews (Cynthia Kay), and Kimberly Sue Andrews-Stringa (Adriano). Betty was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren—Tracy (Jason), Priscilla, John, Jeffrey (Sarah), Brittney (Zack), Adriano James and a cherished great-grandmother to Alexis, Nick, Liliana, Joseph, Elijah, Emelia, Reed, and Dahlia. She is also survived by her dear brothers, Wendell “Buzz” Hayes and Billy Hayes and his wife Faye.

Betty was deeply involved in her church community, dedicating countless hours to the ladies' auxiliary and raising funds for missionaries. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she shared her love for it by teaching Sunday school for many years. Betty also found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as gardening and sewing, where she expressed her creativity and nurtured beauty in the world around her.

Betty's warmth, kindness, and gentle nature touched all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to her family and community, and she will be remembered fondly by those whose lives she enriched.

  • Betty was my next door neighbor for 33 years. She, along with her husband Morris, were the best neighbors anyone could ever have. She was always a caring person and would often be ready for conversation, laughter and always offer a prayer when needed. We both shared the love of gardening together and we would share tips on what we planted each year. She sometimes came over for dinner which she always shared stories of her family including how she met Morris. They both looked out for my family throughout the years as if we were part of her family. She will be greatly missed for years to come. Fly high sweet Betty! Donna Miller
