Obituary
Leon Adkins, born March 27, 1946, in Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2024, in Wyandotte, Michigan, at the age of 78.
Leon dedicated over 43 years of his life to Ford Motor Company, where his work ethic and dedication were well respected by his colleagues. Outside of his professional life, he was a man of many passions and interests. For 58 years, he shared an inseparable bond with his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Shirley. Together, they enjoyed exhilarating rides on motorcycles, fast drives in their cars, and memorable cruises Downriver. Leon's love for the outdoors was evident in his keen interest in fishing, hunting, and camping. He also took great pleasure in building and working on cars, a testament to his creativity and hands-on nature.
Leon’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He adored his grandchildren and was known for his humor, kindness, and immense generosity. A selfless individual, Leon would not hesitate to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His big heart and loving nature made him a cherished companion and husband; he always ensured Shirley could have anything she desired. Leon had a unique knack for fixing things, a trait that friends and family deeply admired. He found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, such as doing yard work and keeping the sidewalks and streets clean. His visits to Kentucky were a source of great joy, where he always felt at home.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Della and Henry Adkins, and his siblings Kelly Adkins, Grant Adkins, Jim Adkins, Mike Adkins, Billie Brown, Beatrice Brewer, and Annie Compton. He is survived by his devoted wife Shirley Adkins; his children Gregg (Candace) Adkins and Pam (John) Cook; his grandchildren Gregg, Nick, Kayla (Nico), Kelly, and Hailey; and his great-grandchildren Olive, Little Gregg, Xavier, Isaiah, and Johnny. He also leaves behind his siblings Mary Drake and Dean (Patti) Adkins.
Leon Adkins will be remembered for his boundless generosity, loving nature, and the joy he brought to those around him. His legacy of kindness and dedication will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
