Obituary

Christopher James “C. J.” Baker, born on August 4, 2010, in Trenton, Michigan, was raised in Gibraltar and passed away on July 27, 2024, at the tender age of 13. C. J. leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory.

He is survived by his loving parents, Chris and Andrea Baker, and his beloved sister, Calli. His grandparents, Carl and Diane (Nau) Baker, and Steve and Cathy (Bell) Stoddard, as well as his great-grandmother, LaJune Nau, will deeply miss him. C. J. is also remembered fondly by his uncles and aunts: Carl Baker, Greg and Amy Stoddard, Bryan and Rachael (Micinski) Stoddard, and Brad Stoddard. His cousins, Sydnie, Cody, and Chase Baker, along with Colton, Bella, Lennyn, Lily, and Rayne Stoddard, will always hold him close in their hearts. C. J.’s furry friend, Remy, will also miss him dearly.

C. J. was preceded in death by his great-grandparents: Clarence Baker, Stan and Lucille (Baker) Swast, Carl Nau, Leo and Darlyn Bell, and Aisle and Edith Stoddard.

C. J. was an adventurous young man whose life, though short, was filled with joy. He loved being outside, fishing and riding his dirt bike.  C.J. was an honor roll student who looked forward to entering Carlson High School in the fall and trying out for the soccer team. C. J. was always ready to try new activities and played various sports including wrestling, basketball, and football. Above all, C. J. cherished the moments spent with those he loved, especially family time on the boat.

Services for C. J. will be held on Friday, August 2nd at the Michigan Memorial Funeral Home, 30895 West Huron River Dr., Flat Rock, Michigan 48134. All are welcome for visitation hours between 2pm -7pm and a service to celebrate C. J.’s life will follow at 7pm.

In this time of sorrow, C. J.’s family appreciates the support from all those who knew and loved him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have been part of his life and felt the joy he brought to all that he met.

  • From one MX family to another your family is in our thoughts and prayers during this time. We didn't get a chance to know you personally but my son races 85's also during staging for the supermini class on Saturday we were standing next to CJ and the words his dad had with him before the race will forever be stuck in my mind. His dad was telling him he did good in the first race and to make sure he doesn't try to overdue it in this race and if he gets to tired to go ahead and just come off the track. Telling him it didn't matter if he doesn't do all the laps that they were just there to get some seat time. I actually went back and told my husband after the race how touched I was to hear a dad saying this as so many times parents can push the kids too much but this dad wasn't but was being super supportive. I can't imagine what your family is going through right now and I hope for peace and comfort for all of you and Know this memory from that day will live on through our family. #517 & #112 Nicole Dinser
  • Dear Andrea, Chris & Callie. I can even imagine what you're going through. When I met you Andrea, you're face glowed talking about you kids. May you find healing, comfort and support. Reach out if there's anything your neighbors can do! Sheila Vail
  • I really didn't know a whole lot about CJ. Besides, him really liking Motocross and that's something I have in common with him, but I really prefer supercross and when I heard the news just recently I was kind of heartbroken to hear how he passed away cuz my father back in the 2000s had a similar accident with a four-wheeler and he was almost crushed and sent to the hospital for I think 3 or 4 months and I wish I really knew the guy a lot more in all my respect goes to the family and him. He will always be a part of the school and our memories. Aiden Wysocki
