Obituary

Ellen Marie Bernard-Buie, born August 28, 1950, passed away August 22, 2023 after a brief but vigilant battle with multiple myeloma.

Ellen was the first of six children born to Robert and Marion Bernard. The family resided in Ecorse and Ellen graduated from Ecorse High School. She continued her studies at Wayne State University and completed both her undergraduate and graduate degrees as a Warrior; She always liked some good-natured rivalry among anyone she encountered.

Ellen married David Buie on February 6, 1988. He preceded her in death in December 2019. Their personalities were totally different and made for an unusual but perfect union; their Christmas parties and summer bar-b-ques were legendary!

Ellen worked many years at DIFCO Labs using her CHMM certification. Ellen went on to a similar career at YAZAKI Motors and then ended her career at Eastern Michigan University.

In her spare time, Ellen loved going for High Tea, traveling, visiting family and friends and of course preparing and having gatherings in her home. Ellen was very organized and thoughtful of others. Every holiday or occasion you could count on a greeting card arriving from her; Hallmark is mourning their best customer.

Many charities benefited from Ellen and David; the giving of time or donation to the charity of your choice would honor them both.

Ellen is survived by her siblings, in-laws, numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces, and many life-long friends.
