Obituary

BYERS, Leona M., 89 years old, was met in heaven by her family. After growing up in the Upper Peninsula, she went to nursing school and began a lifelong career as a Registered Nurse. Leona was many things, but first and foremost a Christian and caregiver to all. Her kind and caring nature was evident in the way she treated her family, friends, and strangers. She never took off her “nurse’s hat” and always lent a listening ear. She is survived by her children, Sheri Barnes (Dave), Shane Byers (Chrystella), and Dawn Sneckenberg (Tom); grandchildren Shannon Arsenault (Derrick), Danny Barnes (Elizabeth), Cortney Landrum (Steve), and Chase Byers; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Frances Petersen, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Lennis Goodreau Byers; her parents, Walter and Mamie and after Walter’s passing, John Brozovich; her brothers Walter and Paul Mountjoy; her sisters Jean McCall and Janet Tourville; and her great-granddaughter, Chloe Mae Arsenault.

Condolences

  • To the Barnes Family, so sorry for your loss. May your sweet mom, sister, aunt, grandma and great grandma rest in peace. She has raised an amazing, loving and caring family that I am so proud to know. May peace be with all of you and wonderful memories last in your heart's forever. Carri Dyl
  • To Lee's entire family. As a young nurse, Lee was a very important role model for me. Started with her at Outer Drive Hospital and followed her to Heritage. She helped guide me and I will always be grateful. May your memories and the impact she made during her nursing career console you in this difficult time. Linda Kibit
  • Dawn: My deepest sympathies to you and your family. I remember meeting your Mother, and she was a charming lady. I hope you and your family have many wonderful memories to cherish. Phil Schertzing
