- Carol and family, Please know the heartfelt pain we have today in hearing about Tom. Joe and I want to share our story. In July 1980, you, Tom, Skip (who had a friend with him, can’t remember who) and Joe and myself went up to your family’s place on Lake Ogemaw to go canoeing on the Rifle River. After canoeing we went to a little restaurant in Skidway Lake for dinner. We drove separately and we stopped to talk and then suddenly we were engaged. When we got to the restaurant and met up with you guys after being seated you and Tom kissed and were admonished by the proprietor telling us that it was a family restaurant and there would be none of that in their place. You two were married at that time but the proprietor was having none of it. We held off telling our news until after we left that place.
