Obituary

Virginia Burgess, born on October 20, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, peacefully passed away on September 14, 2024, in Belleville, at the age of 72.

Virginia dedicated many years of her life as a Packer in the automotive industry, contributing diligently to her work with a steadfast spirit. Beyond her professional life, Virginia found great joy in playing cards, Bingo, and visiting the casino. Her love for her church, Full Gospel House of Prayer, was evident to all who knew her, and she cherished the fellowship and faith it brought to her life.

Known for her warm and welcoming nature, Virginia maintained an open-door policy, always ready to embrace her family with open arms. She found immense pleasure in spending time with her loved ones and was a cornerstone of support and love for them.

Preceding Virginia in death were her spouses, Robert Burgess and Joe Hamlett; her parents, Austin and Della Shafer; her grandson, Shaun Hamlett; and her siblings, Henry Shafer, Joe Shafer, Eddie Shafer, Drew Lochner, and Cleo Fischer.

She leaves behind a loving family, including her children: Martin (Regina) Hamlett, Jessica Thomas, Jason (Danielle) Hamlett, Amanda (Scott) Moore, Christopher Madden, Charity Madden, stepchildren David Burgess, Michael (Jenna) Porter, and Leroy Porter. Virginia was a proud grandmother to 28 grandchildren and was blessed with many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Lucy Martin, and her brother, Robert (Dora) Shafer.

Virginia's legacy of love, warmth, and faith will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
