Obituary

Any one who knew Benjiman knew he thought BIG. Benjiman was a lover of luxury cars, science fiction, action, and fantasy genres, home construction, tools, and gadgets. What few people knew was that he also had artistic abilities. Whenever you were in his presence you were sure to be greeted by a big bear hug and were in for a laugh. Benjiman Clemons Jr. was born in Atmore, Alabama to the union of the late Rev. Benjiman Clemons Sr. and late Minnie Peoples. Both of whom were members of the Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Romulus, MI and where his father was Deacon. Benjiman grew up with a strong foundation in church and sang in the Senior Choir with his youngest brother. He was one of the older sons of 14 children and helped his mother and father raise almost all of them. Benjiman united in marriage to his loving wife Linda Hawkins on July 15, 1978 and to this union was born their two daughters Gabrielle and Brandon. Keeping his strong relationship with the Lord he became a member of Solomon’s Temple in Detroit under the late Bishop William L. Bonner and where his wife’s family were loyal members of the church. He was a devoted employee at General Motors for over 30 years. He retired in 1992 and shortly after pursued his dreams of home construction/ownership with his family in the Irish Hills area. Benjiman is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Benjiman and Minnie Clemons, brothers Wade and Jesse, sister Beatrice, sister-in-law Brenda Clemons, and brother-in-law, Carnell Long. He leaves to celebrate his life his loving and devoted wife, Linda; daughters Gabrielle Clemons and Brandon Clemons; brothers, David Clemons (belated wife, Brenda), Bennett (Randolph) Clemons, Wayne Clemons, Gary Clemons (wife, Joann), and Roy Clemons (wife, Faye); sisters, Jennie Matthews (husband, Benjamin), Jaclyn Madison (husband, Marvin), Felicia Reddick (husband, David), Ann Long (belated husband, Carnell); cousin, Lucy Moore (husband, Frank); great cousin, Violet Tillman (belated husband, Curtis), many nieces and nephews, cousins, and sister and brother-in-laws on his wife’s side of the family.

  • Ben was same as a brother to me and Judy. The whole Clemons family is and always will be family. This death hurts even more to me because I have not seen Ben for a few years now. From time to time a member of the Clemons family would visit Artley Street where we grew up and Judy and I still live there. Ben was a mans man. Never afraid to show his feelings and to me that what made him so darn lovable. I know he already has a lot of nice things in heaven and many good friends and family. Well I guess I will see you soon and we will catch up on things Don't forget us Ben we will never forget you. Gary and Judy Fields
