CARR, Charles F., age 84, of Gibraltar, December 12, 2018. Beloved husband of Beverly Carr. Loving father of Paul Carr, Brian (Lisa) Carr and David Carr. Dearest grandfather of Ashley (Jason), Zachary, Brandon, Annmarie and Rebecca. He is also survived by his sisters Fran (Dick) and Marilyn. He began his career as a patrolman in 1967 for the Gibraltar Police Department. In 1973 he was promoted to Sergeant and then in 1980 promoted to Detective Sergeant. In 1981 he was promoted to Deputy Police Chief and finished out his career in 1992 as the Deputy Chief of Police. His career was highlighted by 13 Departmental Commendations and an outstanding showing at the Michigan Police Olympics. In 1985 he won medals in cycling, shot put, powerlifting and discus. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Gibraltar Fire Department. He was a welder on the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, and would give presentations to the local elementary schools when learning about the ships of the Great Lakes. Throughout his life he received many awards for his dedication and service to the residents of the City of Gibraltar which he loved dearly. But above all, his proudest accomplishment was his family. He put them first above all else and would say that being a grandfather was one of his greatest joys in his life. His cremation will take place at “The Witness Crematory” located inside of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home.
