Fern Elizabeth Campbell, born on December 21, 1937, in Belleville, Michigan, passed away on March 1, 2025, in Wyandotte, Michigan, at the age of 87. Her life was a testament to dedication, love, and service to her community and family.
Fern's journey began in Belleville, where she grew up surrounded by her loving family. She went on to become a professional barber, a career she pursued with passion and skill until her retirement just a few years ago from the barbershop in Waltz, Michigan. Her warm smile and expert hands left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of sitting in her chair.
Beyond her professional life, Fern was deeply involved in her community. She was a member of the Huron Sports Association in New Boston. In addition, her commitment to conservation and the environment was evident through her role as "The First Lady" of the Michigan United Conservation Club (MUCC), where she stood proudly beside her beloved husband, James, who served as president.
Fern's heart was as vast as her contributions. She participated in numerous walks for cancer awareness, including the memorable trek across the Mackinaw Bridge, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to causes close to her heart.
Fern leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving children: Tim (Kimmy) Cook, Doug (Malinda) Campbell, Melinda (David) Staffeld, and Laura (Jason) McClure. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will continue to celebrate her life and memory.
Fern was preceded in death by her cherished husband, James E. Campbell, children Terry Andrews, Ray Cook, Becky Widrig, and Esther Wolfe, her sisters Betty, Bertha, Bernice, Anna May, Erma, and Ruth, and her brother Harold.
Her life was a beacon of hope and inspiration, and her legacy will continue to touch the lives of those who knew her. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fern's name can be made to the American Cancer Societyn or the Michigan United Conservation Club, ensuring that her spirit of giving endures.
