Obituary

George Brian Crum, 62 of Trenton, Michigan passed away very unexpectedly in his home on Monday, March 30th, 2020. He was born on October 23rd 1957 to his loving parents Delbert and Pauline Crum of River Rouge, MI. The youngest of 3 boys, George had two older brothers named Michael and Rick. A lifelong resident ofthe Downriver Community, George followed in his father’s footsteps and began working for Great Lakes Steel in his late teens. He would go on to spend 30 years there, only retiring due to a disability that left him unable to continue his physical requirements.A member of the NHRA since his teens, George’s true passion was drag racing. He spent countless hours in his garage building cars for himself and his close friends from scratch. At the time of his death he was still actively racing and planned to go out one last time this season. He spent his final years with his grandchildren at the track, helping prepare his grandson Anthony to fulfill his legacy with his own dragster.Always quick with a joke and a smile, George would help his friends and family whenever they needed him. Although completely blindsided by his loss, they are happy that he will no longer have to endure the 6-hour dialysis sessions 3 times a week that dominated his life over the last 4 years. He was a fighter until the end and now his race will continue on in Heaven where he will always be a winner. George is survived by his loving daughters Della Dixon and Lori Cunningham, his Grandchildren Breanna,Anthony, Brandon and Jason, his step-daughter Stephanie Swain, his former wife Cheryl Crum, son in laws Dan Dixon, Charles Cunningham and Neil Swain as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends whom he considered family. George was preceded in death by his parents Delbert and Pauline and his brothers Michael and Rick.Racers PrayerI know God that in every raceI, the driver set the pace.Let not my desire for more speed,Warp my judgement, turn into greed. From green to checkered, guide me through.Give me strength to know what to do.Remind me often in the race of lifeHow to go with all the strife.Help me accept the wins I may receiveAnd all the defeats graciously.Ride with me, don’t allow me to lag.Guide me all the way to the Checkered Flag.

Condolences

  • George was a great man. I remember him telling me that I was a nice young man but if I let anything happen to his daughter (Della) why we were in Jamaica I wouldn't live past 19. And I definitely made sure I didn't. We never talked much but the few times we did it was nice especially when he said he was trusting me to leave the country with her. I'm only just now writing this because I was thinking of my Mom who past away 10 days before George did. I know just how hard it is to lose someone who your so close to and love so much. I should have wrote something on here a long time ago. RIP George, wish I could have known you better. Scott Busselman
  • My Condolence for this loss. May God Bless the Crum family. Let’s celebrate George Crum’s life Back 2014, I was pulling out of the garage way too fast. I knocked off my driver’s side view mirror. I was in tears, I called my Dad your Uncle Mike and Uncle George your Dad were hanging out. They decided to have another adventure. Apparently, they called all body shops and junk yards in the Tampa area. In the next few hours, our Dads worked together and saved me a ton of money and found a mirror. There is a catch! I had to install it myself. Both of them thought I would learn a lesson never back out too fast out of a garage! They were on the phone for like an hour walking me through every step! Uncle George was so patient. My car was fixed! I saved close to three hundred bucks. Then two weeks later, I did the same thing! I called my Dad. The two of them were hanging out again. I will never forget Uncle George’s words, “Girl you did not learn your lesson?” Then he goes, “Do we need to drive to Florida and teach you how to drive?” If I would have any doubt in my answer I know they would hit 75 South probably nonstop for 1800 miles. They both loved to traveled. I told them no need to travel. They came through again! They got the second minor a lot cheaper. This time I installed the mirror super quick! I took a picture of my work! They said if I do it again, expect a driving lesson. I never ever had hit the side of the garage again! Uncle George knew cars like the back of his hand! Kristin K
