Obituary
Joseph Yves Chenier, born on February 1, 1939, in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, in Southgate, Michigan, at the age of 85.
Joseph was a proud veteran who was honorably discharged from the U.S Air Force. He served in Vietnam, earning a small arms expert marksmanship medal, good conduct medal, and an outstanding unit award. He was a man of the outdoors, finding joy and tranquility in gardening, golfing, fishing, and hunting throughout his younger years. He relished nature's bounty and found great pleasure in the simple, yet profound experiences of life.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 38 years, Shirley Chenier. Together they built a life filled with love and companionship. He is also survived by his beloved daughters, Denise Wrightman and her husband John, and Susan Chenier. His sister, Hughette, will hold dear the memory of her brother.
Joseph's extended family includes his mother-in-law, Geneva Baugess, who held a special place in his life. He will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law, Janet Fetcko and her husband Ron, as well as his brother-in-law, Bill Baugess and his wife Lynne. His nephews, Eric Baugess and Marc Baugess with his wife Margot, will carry forward his legacy with fond memories.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Hector and Jean Chenier, as well as his brother, James, and sister, Monica. Their memories remained ever present in his heart.
In a life well-lived, Joseph touched the lives of many through his warmth and kindness. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
His cremation will take place at “The Witness Crematory” located inside of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home.
