The Life and Story of Linda Clemons
On the day June 7, 1947 in Detroit Michigan, Linda the second of four siblings was born to the union of Lucius and Marie Hawkins. Both of who were among the founding members of Solomon’s Temple in Detroit.
This commitment to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior by her parents provided she and her siblings a solid foundation to become loyal members of the church.
She accepted Christ at a very young age, received the Holy Spirit at the age of 18, and followed in the footsteps of her parents to be devoted, dedicated, and involved with the growth of the church and its community efforts.
This commitment was shown through her membership to the Joy Bell Choir where she enjoyed honoring our Lord with song along with her sister Marcellette and cooking at many church events alongside her mother.
She graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit where her classmates lovingly nicknamed her Cleopatra and since her older sister attended Northwestern High School they both had the opportunity to socialize with some of Motown’s greatest such as Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye. She had many talents that included antiquing furniture, sewing, upholstering, interior decoration, and arts and crafts. She had a love for all animals, especially dogs. Everyone knew she was never without her black German Shepherd King. And she enjoyed helping her mother run their small farm in Belleville, MI.
Her first place of employment was with a county nursing home in Wayne where she provided care to many and met her future husband. She later obtained an Administrative position with Wayne County Community College where she coined the phrase “WC3,” which the president loved and made part of the major branding for the college.
Linda united in marriage to her loving husband Benjiman Clemons Jr. on July 15, 1978 and to this union was born their two daughters Gabrielle and Brandon. She was a classy, stylish woman who was known for always dressing sharp, adorn with just the right amount of jewelry, and always turning heads with her wonderful perfume.
She enjoyed annual trips to Mackinaw City, outlet mall shopping with her daughters, traveling, and was known for her sweet potato pie, apple pie, and 7-Up Cake and always sending her loved ones greeting cards for their birthdays and holidays.
She was a devoted, loving, caring, and giving wife and mother with strong faith in the Lord. If you had the pleasure of ever meeting her in your life no matter what you were going through she was there for you. If you needed food she made you a meal or bought you groceries, if you needed shelter you stayed with her, if you were stressed or worried she comforted you, if you needed help with your children she was there, and if you were in trouble she gave you the best advice. She was a mother to more than just her daughters; she was a mother to all. She was a light in this world who touched many.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents Lucius and Marie Hawkins, her older sister Marcellette Hawkins-Reaves, her husband Benjiman Clemons Jr. and leaves to celebrate her life her daughters Gabrielle and Brandon Clemons, her siblings Sonya Hawkins and Tasha Hawkins-Bullock (James) along with their children Lisa (son Michael Jr.), Lorenzo (wife Priya) (daughter Jade), Evan John, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and sister and brother-in-laws on her husband’s side of the family and a host of family, friends, and neighbors who will miss her tremendously.
I have fought a good fight,
I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith:
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness,
which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day:
and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
2 Timothy 4:7-8
