Obituary

Patrick James Cassette, born on November 29, 1954, in Wyandotte, Michigan, passed away on June 17, 2026, in Detroit, Michigan, at the age of 71. A man of deep faith and commitment, Patrick was a devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where he found strength and solace in his unwavering belief in God.

Patrick embraced life with enthusiasm and found joy in his passions. An avid golfer, he cherished the camaraderie of his golf family and spent countless hours perfecting his game. His love for the outdoors was evident in the meticulous care he took in maintaining his garden and yard, creating a beautiful sanctuary for his loved ones. Among his many joys was his fondness for wood ducks, and he took joy in welcoming these delightful creatures into his home.

Patrick was preceded in death by his siblings Carolee Curry, Terry Cassette, Danny Cassette, and Marie Cassette, whose memories he held dear.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila, who stood by his side through all of life's adventures. He leaves behind his children Scott (Erica) Beutner, Bryan (Rozzlon) Cassette, and Laura (Scott) Hamilton, who will forever cherish the lessons he imparted and the love he shared. His grandchildren Bryce, Emma, Karen, Roxanne, Monroe, Felix, Alethea, Dean, and Jackson were the light of his life, bringing him immense pride and joy.

Patrick also leaves behind his siblings Ronald Cassette, Nancy Ayris, George (Nora) Cassette, Timothy (Cindy) Cassette, and Charles (Debbie) Cassette, as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends who will remember him fondly.

In remembering Patrick, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by devotion to faith, family, and the simple pleasures that brought him happiness. His legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Moses of the Black Catholic Church - 1125 Oakman Blvd. Detroit, Michigan 48238.

Condolences

  • A Beautiful man. Pat will be sorely missed at our weekly Monday Golf Day!
  • A giant of a man has left us—my father, Pat Cassette. As a railroad worker, my father exemplified every trait of a blue-collar hero. Up before anyone else, he put in the work day after day. He would come home to "rest his eyes" in the afternoon, and once those eyes were sufficiently rested, he’d put his dad hat on and start his second shift. His body paid the price to give my siblings and me the best shot at life possible. He taught me the value of dedication, hard work, how to be strong, and most importantly, how to be kind. He knew when to be firm—or as he would say, "sometimes, you have to be the prick"—but he also knew when to be soft and compassionate. While he didn't realize it, he was mentoring me the entire time, ingraining character traits that have served me well in life. My dad's superpower was his ability to make friends anywhere. He was always talking to new people and making connections. A man with a booming voice and an infectious laugh, people just gravitated to him like moths to a flame. Later in life, being an amazing grandfather allowed his gentler side to truly shine. He became everyone's grandpa, and he took that job every bit as seriously as the one that provided for us growing up. His faith ran deep, and I would often joke that he was running for Pope. His rosary was always with him, even up until the very end. I know in my heart he is in a better place now, reunited with the loved ones who passed before him. Dad, I'm going to miss you. Things are incredibly hard right now, but it’s time for me to buckle down and do the work, whether I like it or not—just like you taught me. I love you, and I know you'll still be guiding me from above. You are loved by so many, and you will be remembered by everyone whose orbit you graced. Bryan Cassette
