Richard Duane Cashen (Rich), 79, longtime resident of Sumpter/Belleville, passed away on May 5, 2022 at his home with family by his side. Rich was born on May 13, 1942 in Detroit, MI; his parents were Eleanor M. (Ellie) & Francis P. (Pete) Cashen. The family later moved to Taylor, MI where Rich grew up and later in life, raised his family there. At one point in time, he & his family lived across the street from his parents. Rich loved attending family functions and especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren & great-grandson. With several May birthdays in the family, Rich always looked forward to the May birthday celebrations! Rich lived life his way! He raised his family while enjoying boats, motorcycles and cars; especially the Corvette that he loved. He was a journeyman Millwright with Local 1102 – a trade and career that he was very proud of and retired from. His Millwright/Local 1102 jacket was one of his prized possessions. He also loved to watch anything John Wayne, westerns and war movies while drinking his orange soda (and other beverages too!). Rich is survived by his daughters Suzanne (Rich) Tank, Cherie (John) Fraser & Michele (Rodney) Hightower as well as his grandchildren Jacob (Jackie) Chandonnet, Michael Darnell, Jennifer (Scott) Darnell, Cody Darnell, Anthony (Rachel) Tank & Farra (Travis) Halverston. Great-grandchildren included Jacob, Ava, Ellis & Haddie. His beloved grandson & great-grandson, Jacob P. Chandonnet & Jacob T. Chandonnet, respectively, shared May birthdays with their grandpa – and he loved it! Rich also remained close with the mother of his children, Esther Orde. Rich was preceded in death by his parents Eleanor (Ellie) & Francis (Pete) Cashen and his son, Richard (Rick) David Cashen. Richard Duane, Richard David & Francis (Pete) Cashen were all Millwrights out of Local 1102 – truly a family tradition (grandfather, son, grandson). In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place. He also requested a private/family visitation & celebration of his life which will take place on his 80th birthday. Arrangements were entrusted to Michigan Memorial Funeral Home; he will be laid to rest in their cemetery
