Obituary

Ronald Paul Cornell, a proud lifelong resident of the Downriver Community, passed peacefully on March 26, 2026, just days before his 86th birthday.

Ron was born at Wyandotte General Hospital, he was the beloved son of Margaret Cornell and Paul Cornell, both of whom preceded him in death. He grew up in Wyandotte and attended Theodore Roosevelt High School, where he was known for his natural athletic ability and excelled in all sports. His toughness, determination, and competitive spirit became defining traits that carried him throughout his life.

Ron proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. During his service, he spent time overseas, experiencing places such as Germany and Paris, memories he carried with him for the rest of his life. After returning home, he built a hardworking life and career, including his time at McLouth Steel, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication.

At the center of Ron’s life was the love he shared with his wife, Janice Cornell, the love of his life. Together, they built a life rooted in family, resilience, and unwavering loyalty.

Ron experienced great loss in his lifetime, including his brother Gary Cornell and his sons, Ronny Cornell and Kevin Cornell, all of whom preceded him in death.

He leaves behind his loving son, Paul Cornell; his cherished granddaughter, Zosia Cornell; Daughter in Law Amanda Cornell and his brother, Kenny Cornell. He will also be remembered by extended family, friends, and all who knew him as a man who was tough, stubborn, deeply loyal, and truly one of a kind.

Ron’s legacy is one of strength, service, determination and love for his family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all.

Condolences
