Obituary

Roy Carpenter, born on October 20, 1944, in Taylor, MI, passed away peacefully from natural causes on August 29, 2024, in Addison, MI, at the age of 79.

Roy grew up in Taylor, MI, where he spent much of his early life. In 1990, he moved to New Boston, MI, with his late wife Patricia and their grandchildren Holly and Carl. There, Roy and Patricia realized a shared passion for exotic birds, founding "The Bird House," where they bred beautiful parrots and lovingly hand-fed their babies. Roy had a special fondness for African Greys and Red-tailed Amazons.

A dedicated worker, Roy was employed as a diesel mechanic at Caterpillar and City Sands. He was also a proud member of the Operating Engineers Union, retiring after more than 35 years of exemplary service.

Roy served his country with honor in the US Army, spending much of his service overseas. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1967 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for Marksmanship and Outstanding Squad Leader.

He was a devoted and loving husband to his late wife Patricia for over 30 years. Together, they raised two of their grandchildren, Holly and Carl. His family was his pride and joy, and he found immense satisfaction in their accomplishments and happiness.

Roy is preceded in death by his mother Virginia Carpenter, father Roy Carpenter, beloved late wife Patricia Carpenter, brother Theodore Carpenter, sons Charles Porter Jr., Robert Porter, David Porter, daughter Janice Porter, and grandchildren Charles Porter III, Michelle Porter, Amy Prothero, and David Porter Jr.

He is survived by his dear wife Patti Carpenter; children James Porter, April (Augustin) Gonzales, and Michael Cloyd; cherished grandchildren Trisha (Jeff), Holly (Norm), June (John), Carl (Sarah), Sharon (Mark), Sandy (Wade), Barbie, Bobby, Kaleb (Cori), Kylie (Tyler), Dean, Wayne, William; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Jerry (Becky), Donna (Tom), Sharon, and many nieces and nephews.

Roy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In our hearts and memories, Roy Carpenter's legacy of love, dedication, and passion for life will live on forever.

Condolences
