Obituary
Deaconess Eva Mae Davis life begun on Wednesday October 23, 1929, the daughter of the late Willie Bell and Bertha Bell of Bessemer Alabama. On Wednesday June 10, 2026, our beloved mother affectionally known as “E. Mae” peacefully departed this life at her home in Belleville Michigan at the seasoned age of 96.
Eva Mae accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized, beginning a lifelong journey of faith and service. Even as a young girl, she demonstrated determination and resilience, beginning work at the age of 12 as a short-order cook, famously standing on a soapbox to reach the stove. Cooking remained one of her greatest joys throughout her life. She loved preparing large meals and took special pride in teaching her grandchildren how to cook by showing them how to scramble eggs, flip pancakes, and make grits for breakfast.
Eva Mae attended Brighton High School where she earned her diploma. After graduation she moved to Chicago in 1948 to live with her uncle and aunt, beginning her journey into adulthood. In 1952 she married the love of her life, the late James Davis Jr Their union lasted 51 years until his passing, a testament to their enduring love and partnership.
Together, Eva Mae and James eventually made their home in Detroit, Michigan. There, she worked in various roles before retiring from General Motors as an assembly line worker. She was widely known for her diligence, reliability, and strong work ethic. Beyond her career, Eva Mae was a devoted homemaker who cherished caring for her family, creating a home filled with love, meals, and togetherness. She was known for her direct and honest nature, as well as her boldness and spirited personality
A faithful servant of God, Eva Mae was a dedicated member of Ark of Noah Missionary Baptist Church for 45 years. During that time, she served faithfully as a Deaconess and contributed her time and gifts as a choir member, altar circle representative, finance committee member, and kitchen staff volunteer.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two children James (Jimmy) Davis III and Lavoria Davis and eight siblings Willie Bell Jr, Mitchel Robinson, Dorthy Hartfield, Charles Crear, Richard Jackson, Robert Bell, LaVern Bell and Pauline Williams.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her children, Anthony Davis, Reginald Davis, and Shelonda Bynum; her cherished grandchildren, Jazzmine Dunbar, Mario Bynum (Stephanie), Shereif Bynum, Heavenly-Diamond Bynum, Jada Davis, Reggie Davis Jr., and Paige Davis; and her adored great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Tafari, Jazzmin, Kaizen, Azriel, and Lux. She is also survived by her siblings, Frank Bell, Wylene Allen, Maxine Bell, Lillie Lanier, Margaret West, and Lorenzo Jackson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Eva Mae Davis will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered for her strength, faith, warmth, and the legacy of love she leaves behind in all who knew her.
