Obituary

Of all the titles we are given in life, Hazel Dearry was a faithful and loving servant first, a loving wife, the best mother, the proudest Nanny, the oldest sister, the sweetest cousin, the favorite aunt, and a best friend. Hazel Willodean Dearry was born on a snowy morning December 12, 1937, in Trinity, Alabama. Her daddy used to call her on her birthday every year and tell her about the day she was born. She never really believed there could have been snow in Alabama, but she heard from a relative on the day of her Daddy’s funeral the same exact story he had been telling her for years. Her beloved parents Leon Kelsey Lowery and Annie Louise Lowery were waiting for her this morning along with her only sister, Shirley Ann and only brother, Bobbie Kelsey. We know they are rejoicing her homecoming. We take comfort in knowing her body is at rest and her soul at peace. Hazel Dearry moved to Michigan as a child during the automobile boom in the 50’s. She was married at the age of 22 to Bobbie Dearry in Ypsilanti, Michigan on June 27, 1959. Theirs is a love story that lasted 63 beautiful years. Her beloved husband, Bob Dearry is lost today without her. They were blessed with 3 children and one granddaughter. Son Michael Dean, and his wife Carmen, daughter Leigh Ann, and her husband Tony Baziotes, and son Jason Leon, and granddaughter Abigail Louise. Throughout the years there was also a long list of “fur-grandbabies”, who were all loved and cherished. Edwina, Spanky, Daisey, Darla, Lily, Laney, Zoey and her beloved Charlie Brown. The center of her life was Jesus Christ and her family. She had a sweet spirit and a nurturing heart. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, watching birds, and writing in her journals. Her only granddaughter, Abigail Louise, has been the light of her world the last 15 years, no conversation ended without a story about “her Abigail”. Hazel was active in Church her entire life. She would correct anyone that used the word lucky to describe her life and tell you SHE IS BLESSED! She always had a kind word and a warm hug for everyone.  She had the best sense of humor, was funny and made us laugh all the time.  Even her last days on this earth, she somehow brought a smile to help us deal with our tears. Hazel Dearry lived the good life. And one thing we know for sure, Hazel Dearry went to heaven. All of us that loved her knew she had a direct connection to Jesus Christ and a SPEED PASS to the pearly gates.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the name of Hazel W. Dearry. Mom always said, “I don’t want flowers after I am gone, but bring them all to me when I am alive, so I can enjoy them”.
