Obituary

James Distefanis, Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away on February 15, 2025, in Clinton Township, Michigan. Born on September 2, 1946, in Clarksville, Pennsylvania, he lived a life full of passion and dedication, reaching the age of 78 years.

James was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He cherished his time fly fishing and hunting, especially at the River Raisin and Huron River, where he connected deeply with nature and the tranquility it offered him.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 60 years, Loretta Distefanis, and his grandchild, Brianna Distefanis. Their memories were always close to his heart.

James leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor his memory: his children, James Distefanis, Jr., Ann Marie Distefanis, and Jason Distefanis; his grandchildren, Rachel (Travis) Slemp, Vincent Distefanis, and Taylor Distefanis; and his great-grandchildren, Ian Slemp and Zachary Slemp. He is also survived by his sisters, Shirley Wiers and Chi-Chi Hughes, who shared in the joys and challenges of life with him.

His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on through the enduring love and memories he leaves behind.

Condolences

  • Dear family, I am a member of huron river fishing association and knew Jim for years. I've fished many times in many places with Jim. We did float boats and waded the streams. His heart condition didn't give him the strength any longer but we tied Flys. We talked about work at the plant in Flat Rock and I visited Jim at his home in Canton. He was a great guy, loved his family, worked hard, and loved fly fishing. I admired him. He set examples for the club. He was a leader and a friend to all. God bless you. Nobody let us know til now and my wife found this obituary. The club would have honored him with visitation as a group if we'd had known. Love you Jim. Ed at 734 262 0q20. Eddie McCarter
