Obituary

DAVIES, Kaye F. Bodenhorn, age 84, of Riverview, November 8, 2023. She was a wonderful mother, Nana, and great-grandmother who was always there when we needed her.

Loving mother of Lee Ann Mulligan, Lorie (Keith) Goodale, Jane (John) Culp, and James (Shawnie) Davies.

Dearest grandmother of Jacob (Abigail), Kevin (Haley), Benjamin (Allison), Amanda (Michael), Lindsay (John), Zachary, Patti (Ryan), Adam, Lydia, and great-grandmother of Olin, Mayleigh, Landen, and McKenna.

Kaye was a dedicated public servant, focusing on adaptive recreation for the handicapped. She earned her bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University in physical education.

Her early career was building the Wyandotte adaptive recreation program. After earning her master’s degree from Wayne State University, she became a certified recreational therapist at Wyandotte General Hospital.

Always an athlete, Kaye was a coach for the Cerebral Palsy /  Paralympic games, coordinated the Michigan games, and coached Michigan athletes in both the national and International Olympic games.

She was an instrumental advocate for wheelchair ramps in public spaces and adaptive playground equipment. She spent 26 years as a recreation commissioner for the City of Riverview, as well as many years serving on the city board of review.

Kaye was an enthusiastic traveler.  She was happy to have visited 5 continents as well as seen Antarctica. She was lucky to travel with both family and friends.

Even in her retirement, Kaye went above and beyond, voted Senior “prom” queen, recognized for her extreme holiday decorations, calling bingo for the senior community, and competing in the Downriver Senior Olympics for many years.

She had so many friends and was a well-loved member of her community in Riverview.

She is preceded in death by her parents Merle and Agnes Bodenhorn, and her brother Lee Bodenhorn. Memorial donations may be made to Henry Ford Hospice. Her cremation will take place at “The Witness Crematory” located inside of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home.
