Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leo Patrick Diroff, a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, who departed this world on January 14, 2025, in Carleton, Michigan, at the age of 94. Born on April 17, 1930, in Toledo, Ohio, Leo was a cherished soul, known for his unwavering positivity and generous spirit.
Leo dedicated his life to nurturing and guiding young minds, working as a counselor for the Taylor School System for an impressive 50 years. His commitment to education and support was unparalleled, marking him as the first to be awarded for half a century of service in the district. Even after his retirement at the age of 81, Leo's passion for helping others never waned.
Outside of his professional life, Leo pursued his interests with enthusiasm and joy. He was an avid bowler, sharing many joyful moments with his fellow teachers, and his love for sports was evident in his fervent support for the University of Michigan and the Detroit Tigers. A man of many talents, Leo also had a passion for construction and spent 25 years as a Greyhound Bus driver, relishing every minute behind the wheel. His love for driving was matched only by his quick wit and his ability to bring laughter into any room with his great one-liners.
Leo's generosity knew no bounds; he was always willing to lend a hand or bail out his loved ones without hesitation, embodying the essence of a giving heart.
He was preceded in death by his devoted parents, Joseph and Catherine Diroff, his great-grandson Aiden, grandson-in-law Ryan, brother-in-law Bob Dalto, and his siblings Dorothy (Mike) Horan, Joseph (Bernadette) Diroff, Ed (Dorothy) Diroff, Mary Ann (Dave) Walker, Larry (Mary Helen) Diroff, Jerry (Gerry) Diroff, and Bernard (Gladys) Diroff.
Leo leaves behind a legacy of love through his surviving children: Mark (Linda) Diroff, Mike (Amy) Diroff, Christopher (Kim) Diroff, Jim (Helen) Diroff, Diane (Robert) Long, and Matthew (Laura) Diroff. His grandchildren Ron (Becky), Mark (Renee), Ali (Nicholas), Andre, Michael (Renee), Natalie, Brian (Alex), Catherine, Sean (Julia), Stacey Marie (Chris), Brad (Kati), Julie (Mike), Christine (Sam), James II (Arlette), Jason (Kristin), Kyle (Kara), Mitchell (Yvonne), Curtis (Emily), Grace, Greta, and Ethan will fondly remember him as their cherished mentor and friend. He was also a beloved great-grandfather to many.
Leo is survived by his dear sister, Joan Dalto, who, along with countless friends and family, will forever hold him close in their hearts.
While Leo Patrick Diroff may no longer walk among us, his memory and teachings will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. His life was a testament to the power of kindness, laughter, and love.
