Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Nicholas Robert Dearing, affectionately known as Nick. Born on August 14, 1981, in Westland, Michigan, Nick was taken far too soon on July 20, 2026, at 44 years old.
Nick was a man of many talents and passions. As a gifted chef and the esteemed Kitchen Manager at The Tavern, he delighted many with his culinary creations. His love for cooking was matched only by his dedication to his garden, where he took great pride in nurturing his beloved rose bushes. A talented photographer, Nick had an eye for capturing the beauty of the world around him.
A devoted husband to Aaron Massel, Nick was a loving and supportive partner. He cherished his role as a stepfather to Gabriella and Sophie Massel, investing deeply in their lives and futures. Nick's laid-back demeanor and hard-working nature endeared him to all who knew him.
Nick is survived by his beloved husband, Aaron Massel; his cherished stepdaughters, Gabriella and Sophie Massel; his parents, Robert Dearing and Denise Bukis; and his sisters, Shae Millard and Rebecca Roberts. He also leaves behind his in-laws, Tom and Emoke Massel; sisters-in-law, Lisa Witcher and Michelle (Gyorgy Sziros) Massel; and his adored furbabies, Pipa, Declan, and Milo. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Peter and Sally Bukis, and his faithful dog, Hank.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, from 12:00 – 3:00 PM, with a service at 3:00 PM. Entombment to follow at Michigan Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Nick's memory may make a donation to the American Heart Association in his name.
Nick will be remembered for his warmth, his talent, and the love he shared with those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
