- So sorry to hear about Dick's passing. He was a talented teacher and a great colleague. As a student teacher in 1970, I observed one of his classes and learned more from him in 45 minutes than from all my education courses combined. I still remember his sporty, green AMX, his snakeskin boots, and his hilarious "true" stories. One of his favorite songs back then was "The Boxer" by Simon and Garfunkel. I've thought of him often through the years but especially whenever I heard this song--this sad song is even more melancholy today. Thoughts and prayers for Michele, Drew, and Delani. Dave Cook
- Mr. D was one in a million! He was an excellent teacher, a dedicated coach, and a kind and thoughtful man. In our early years at Barnes he was a celebrity to me and my siblings and friends- he had long hair, a fast car, cool clothes, and performed gymnastic stunts like an Olympian! We learned so much from him over the years (PE, science, English, track) and I’ll never forget his great sense of humor, laugh, and his kindness. He is a legend in the Mentzer house! - As a family and community we have so many fond and funny memories of Mr. D! He was one of a kind and loved by all! Our thoughts and prayers are with you Michelle, Drew and Delaney and the rest of his loved ones. We know that Dick will be entertaining everyone in heaven now and their tears of laughter will rain down on all of us to make us smile. Jann Stahr
- Mr D was a great teacher, coach and mentor. I had him for English in 7th grade and he said something that has stayed with me all theses years (I’ve even used on my kids when they were at thst age) - Mr D caught someone talking in class and he called her out. Her response was “I didn’t do nothin’.” Mr D the said “If you didn’t do nothin’, then you must have done somethin’.” Jim Martin
- He was a wonderful teacher, track coach, and great guy, with a sense of humor. Matt Reeves
