Obituary

Nella Ruth Engle, affectionately known as Nell, passed away on January 21, 2025, at the age of 90, in Grosse Ile, Michigan. Born on December 7, 1934, in Jarvis, Kentucky, Nell was cherished by all who knew her for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith.

Nell dedicated many years of her life as a Nursing Assistant at Oakwood Hospital, now known as Corewell Health – Dearborn. Her work spanned multiple departments, and she served with compassion and diligence up until the COVID pandemic. A true people person, Nell’s great sense of humor touched everyone around her, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives.

Nell's most enduring legacy is her love for her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored. Her giving heart ensured that they always had what they needed. Aside from her grandchildren, she was generous beyond words for everyone she encountered. If anyone needed anything, Nell was the first to give whatever was needed. Beyond her devotion to family, Nell kept the Lord at the center of her life, finding solace and strength in her faith as a devoted member of Beacon Baptist Church. She also found joy in listening to a variety of music, a passion she enjoyed throughout her life.

Preceded in death by her beloved spouse, Wayne, her parents, Raymond and Gertrude, and her siblings, June, Faye, Mickey, Randall, and John, Nell is survived by her loving children: Rick (Marilyn) Engle, Linda Engle, and Kim Langelaar. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Jason Engle, Garrett Langelaar, Justin Langelaar, and Jackson Barraclough. Nell is also survived by her dear siblings, Jim (Cindy) Jarvis and Jeannie (Cecil) Sroka, along with several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a service at 6:00 PM. Nell will be entombed at Michigan Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beacon Baptist Missionary Fund or a favorite organization of your choice. Nell’s generous spirit and love will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
