Charlie Francis, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on August 30, 2025, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, at the age of 81. Born on February 27, 1944, in Hazard, Kentucky, Charlie lived a life full of love, dedication, and joy.
Charlie was a man whose heart was as expansive as his smile. He spent his career as a hydraulic repairman at Ford Motor Company, where he was known for his hard work and integrity until his retirement. However, it was his role within his family that truly defined him. A devoted husband to his beloved wife, Linda, for 62 remarkable years, their love story began in their teens at the Sumpter Roller Rink and blossomed into a lifelong partnership filled with laughter and unwavering support.
As a "Super Dad" to his sons, Scott (Stacey) Francis and Butch (Stacie) Francis, Charlie instilled values of kindness, perseverance, and loyalty. His legacy continues through his six grandchildren—Frank Francis, Shelby (Izacc) Valdez, Cameron (Shyann) Francis, Drew Francis, Carlee Francis, and Colten Francis—and three great-grandchildren, Ezekiel, Tanner, and Oakley, who were the light of his life. Charlie found immense joy in playing with them, often spending hours pushing them on the swing set, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Charlie was a true family man, always putting his loved ones first. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid supporter of the University of Kentucky Wildcats Basketball Team, cheering them on with enthusiasm and pride.
Preceded in death by his parents, Lourenza and Millie Francis, and siblings Lourenza Francis, Jr., Alex, Elijah, and Geraldine Manning, Charlie is survived by his brothers Thomas (Bug) Francis, Darrell (Donita) Francis, and Ronnie Francis, and his sister Midge (Doug) Melvin. He leaves behind many family members and friends who will miss his warmth and generosity.
Charlie's life was a testament to the power of love and family. His spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him, reminding us all to cherish every moment and to live with kindness and compassion.
