Obituary

Cheryl "Sherry" Flaim, 71, of Brownstown, MI passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Lincoln Park on August 25, 1954, Sherry grew up on Capitol Street, an area with a well-known tight-knit family atmosphere, laying the foundation for many lifelong friendships. Sherry was a devoted Catholic who lived her faith, using it along with her sweet personality and sense of humor to nurture her loving family, build a network of cherished friends, and extend warmth and charity toward everyone who crossed her path.

Sherry shared God's love with those new to the faith by teaching for Christ the Good Shepherd's RCIA program for many years. A talented artist known for impeccable crafts and decor, she made many of the decorative pieces that hung within the church during the holidays. She also thrived as a medical assistant for Dr. Danny Kaplan, where she made beautiful friendships and touched many lives.

Above all else, Sherry was the absolute best wife, mother and grandmother. Better known as "Mimi," she and her husband Tim, AKA "Pa," devoted their later years to helping raise and cuddle their three beloved grandchildren; Delia, Edward and Violet. Watching her cherished grandkids blossom as caring individuals and vibrant artists filled Sherry with pride and made her legacy complete.

Sherry was preceded in death by her legendary parents, Clayton and Shirley, and her brother Scott Hamel. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Tim Flaim, children Matthew (Erin) Flaim and Angela (Jim) Henderson, siblings/best friends Barbara Lengel (Paul), Greg (Diane) Hamel, Bill (Krysten) Hamel, and sister-in-law Lisa Hamel, beloved family member Phyllis Wilson, and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Sherry's family meant everything to her, and we will miss her love and light everyday.

In lieu of flowers, her family kindly requests donations to be made to UNICEF in honor of Sherry's enduring love for children and motherly spirit.

Condolences

  • A piece of me is gone with you, dear sister. But your love your kindness and the bond we shared will never fade. I will hold you close in my heart forever. Greg Hamel
