Christine Frances Gamber-McLenon, a cherished family matriarch and was a dedicated public servant, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025, in Huron Township, Michigan. She was 79 years old.
Born on December 10, 1945, in Trenton, Michigan, Christine was the beloved daughter of the late Frank and Frances Balowski. She graduated from Huron High School in 1962 at the age of 16 and pursued higher education for three years before embarking on a distinguished career in public service.
Christine began her professional journey at Security Bank and Trust in New Boston. Her commitment to her community led to her appointment as Treasurer of Huron Township in 1979, where she was subsequently elected unopposed in 1980 and 1984. In 1988, she was appointed Supervisor of Huron Township and was elected to the position later that year and again in 1992.
Throughout her career, Christine was instrumental in numerous community initiatives. She played a pivotal role in establishing the Junior Olympics in the area, providing a platform for children to compete with peers across Southeast Michigan. Her vision and leadership were evident in the creation of Lajko Park, a dog pound for stray animal adoption, and a Senior Center in collaboration with the local school district. She also pioneered curbside recycling services and established a recycling center in the community.
Christine's dedication extended to the creation of the first Huron Township D.A.R.E. Program, the Huron Township Economic Development Corporation, and the LDFA Commission and district. Her efforts successfully deterred many landfill companies from settling in Huron Township, preserving the community's integrity.
Her leadership was recognized beyond her immediate community, serving as President, Vice-President, and Secretary of the Wayne County Supervisor’s Association. She also served as the Wayne County Chief Deputy Register of Deeds for 12 years.
Christine's legacy is carried forward by her beloved husband, Thomas B. McLenon, and her loving children: Lisa (Shawn) McGrath, Andrea Gamber, Barbara Gamber, Dana (Errol) Town, Amanda McLenon, and Meghan McLenon. She was a devoted grandmother to Jim (Ally) McGrath, John McGrath, Bradley Smith, Deven Smith, Colton Smith, Ellyse Town, Evan Town, Ellen Town, Caitlyn Kohn, Emily Kohn, Hailey Kohn, Allison Kohn, and a proud great-grandmother to Wesley. She is also survived by her brother Richard (Irene) Balowski, sister-in-law Rita Balowski, and brother-in-law Kenneth McLenon.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Frank Balowski. Her life was a testament to service, love, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
