Obituary

Helen Joyce Gamble, who was known to most as Joyce, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, was peacefully taken into the arms of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, on Sunday, August 2, 2026. She passed away in Monroe, Michigan, at the age of 92. Born on May 30, 1934, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, she lived a life full of love, joy, and service to others.

Joyce dedicated many years to working in high-end retail and as a hostess in an upscale restaurant on Michigan Avenue, where her warm smile and kind demeanor left a lasting impression on all who met her. She also spent time nurturing young minds in a preschool setting and was a devoted caretaker for her grandchildren and other family members' children. Her compassion extended beyond her family, as she also cared for the elderly and volunteered tirelessly at her church.

Known affectionately as "Gramma Joyce" and "GG" by her great-grandchildren, Joyce was the embodiment of resilience and kindness. Her love for Jesus, family, and friends was evident in every aspect of her life. She never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Her infectious smile and joyful spirit were matched only by her love for music and dancing the jitterbug.

Joyce was preceded in death by her cherished grandsons, Brad Gamble and Kyle Gamble; her siblings Ted Stubbs and Hazel Hobson. She is survived by her loving children, Catherine (Randall) Engel, Michael (Lisa Anderson) Gamble and Timothy Gamble; her adoring grandchildren, Matthew (Bethany) Engel, Julie (Jeffree) Cutright, Ryan (Joanna) Gamble, Joel (Jennifer) Gamble, Dillon (Chelsea) Gamble and Noah (Darian) Gamble; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Levi Engel, Norah Engel, Joshua Cutright, Hadlee Cutright, Cameron Cutright, Zoe Gamble, Elijah Gamble, Katelyn Gamble, William Gamble, Allison Gamble, Madelyn Gamble, Nathan Gamble, Hunter Gamble and Rylee Gamble.

Joyce’s legacy of love, joy, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by her family and countless friends.
