Obituary

Leonard Frank Gasieski, passed away on September 28, 2024, at the age of 99. Born on November 3, 1924, in Sumpter, Michigan, Leonard lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication, craftsmanship, and boundless generosity.

Leonard proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy, demonstrating commendable bravery and patriotism. Upon returning home, he embarked on a distinguished career as a Cutter Grinder at Chrysler Automotive, where his meticulous skill and unwavering work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

A man of many talents, Leonard's interests were as varied as they were extraordinary. He had a profound passion for building, particularly ice boats and air boats which he skillfully navigated across Belleville Lake. A true tinkerer at heart, Leonard devoted countless hours to crafting and creating various projects, including the loving restoration of a Northern cottage that he proudly preserved for future generations. His ingenuity and craftsmanship were a testament to his boundless creativity and dedication.

Leonard was also known for his vibrant personality and youthful spirit, traits that endeared him to all who knew him. An exceptional card player, he brought joy and laughter to every Euchre game, his presence a source of warmth and conviviality. His love for Polish food and dancing the Polka, often in his signature red shoes, added a joyful rhythm to his life, keeping him active and engaged until his final days.

Preceded in death by his beloved spouse Dorothy, his parents Walter and Jennie, his daughter Susan Deer, and his brother, Archie Gasieski. Leonard leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity. He is survived by his grandchildren Gregory and Dina Traskos, great-granddaughter, Camille, his sister Eleanor Wilczewski, brother, Eddie, his son-in-law Ronald and his wife, Wanda, who will forever cherish his memory.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 10:00 AM, followed by a Veterans Honor Guard Service at his gravesite. Leonard will be laid to rest at Michigan Memorial Park, where his spirit will be honored and remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, a veteran organization, in Leonard's memory. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his generous heart, his zest for life, and the many ways he made the world a better place.
