Phyllis Ann Sementkowski was born in Romulus, Michigan on March 28, 1928. She was one of seven children born from the union of the late Casimer Sementkowski and the late Theresa (Kheel) Sementkowski. She graduated from Romulus High School with the class of 1947.After high school, Phyllis worked as a phone operator in Romulus until she went on a blind date in 1948 and met the love of her life, Donald Gentz Sr. Phyllis married Donald on June 18, 1949 and lived in wedded bliss until Donald’s unexpected passing in August 2007. From their union came the birth of their four children: the late Donald (Deborah) Gentz Jr., Susan (Larry) Kreps, Elizabeth Stokes, and Marianne (Terry) Cecil. Phyllis was proud of her Polish heritage and would often be heard listening to Polka with Donald singing along with the music. When she was younger, Phyllis loved her flower garden and would try to keep her home beautiful with roses, carnations, and wildflowers. Phyllis was a great mom and loved her children with her whole being. She would help out her children in school and teach them how to cook. Her favorite past times were to craft and shop. She would often be seen shopping with her daughter, Susan, at Michael’s, Meijer, and Craft 2000 occasionally with a grandchild along for the ride. She would often craft with fabric flowers and always planted them in her garden to make it last all year long.Phyllis was a big supporter of her grandchildren and would be seen at Girl Scout meetings for her granddaughters’ troops. Everyone who would come to meet Phyllis would come to call her Grandma and she adopted some of her grandchildren’s friends as her own grandchildren. She had blast when her grandchildren would come and stay the night with her and Donald. She loved to be with her family whenever she could. If it was just watching an episode of her television shows with them or a quick visit to bring some of her favorite fast food, she absolutely loved the time spent with them.Phyllis Ann Gentz, age 89, of New Boston passed away at 9:00 am on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Beaumont Trenton with her daughter, Marianne, and her son-in-law, Terry, by her side. In addition to her parents passing, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, Donald Gentz Sr.; her son: Donald Gentz Jr.; and two sisters; Joan Warblow and Carol Ashley. To cherish her memory Phyllis leaves behind her three daughters: Susan (Larry) Kreps, Elizabeth Stokes, and Marianne (Terry) Cecil; nine grandchildren: Kelly (Marc) Bellomy, Brian Kreps, Danielle Gentz, Gerald Gentz, Stephanie (Marty) Mitchell, Cortney (Daryl) Stokes, Carla Cecil, Jessica Gentz, and Tracy (Steven) Cecil; eight great-grandchildren; Samantha Bellomy, Alex Bellomy, Elena Bellomy, Xavier Bellomy, Lucas Bellomy, Sofia Gentz, Max Shelly, and Meleena Mitchell; four siblings: Margie Kinsey, Gerry Morris, and Janette Murphy, and Richard Sementkowski; her four legged companion, Brandy Wine Gentz; and many extended family members and friends.
