Obituary

Dave was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 18, 1950 to his dear parents, Lorrain and Dean Atkinson, who preceded him in death along with his brother David Albert Harris. David is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Len Harris. They were married on December 10, 1971. He is the beloved father of Fred Aaron, twin daughters, Denise (Chris) and Daniell (Eddie). He is the proud grandfather of his beautiful and greatly loved grandchildren, Tori, Skyler, Zachary, Bailey, Jaden, Jordan and Luke along with his most precious great-grandchildren, Aavah, Mavrick and Willow. David is further survived by his sisters, Beverly (Jim) and Terry Fritz and a daughter-in-law, Leah.David graduated from Lincoln Park High School and was inducted into the United States Army on April 28, 1969 where he served in combat infantry unit D-CO, 8th squad, first cavalry unit and attained the rank of SGT. Where he shipped out to Vietnam, during the heat of the war.David was awarded the Infantry Combat Metal, National Defense Metal, Vietnam Campaign Metal, and the Vietnam Service Metal, while serving his country in Hostile Combat Zones in Vietnam. David was a combat hero, as were many that served in the Vietnam War.David Later worked at Chrysler Trenton Engine Plant for 33 years, in his later years at Chrysler, in the Maintenance Department. David’s talents and hobbies were many, as he would also instruct his children and grandchildren to respect the animals that he loved dearly. David raised, loved and trained horses and taught his children how to ride them. He was an outdoorsman who camped and fished with his family. David also loved to hunt, and his favorite meal was the venison that he harvested. He also taught his kids on how to ride quads, and trikes and much enjoyed seeing their smiles on their adventures they would take. David had an extensive lional train collection that dated back to the days of his youth that he enjoyed dearly. David was also a huge Detroit Red Wings fan as displayed by his memorabilia in his home. After David had become ill, his son Fred took him to a hockey game. David will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
