Obituary

HORUCZI, Darlene L., age 77, of Riverview, January 11, 2024.
Darlene Louise Deuel Horuczi was a devoted mother and homemaker known for her radical hospitality, loving heart and generous nature. She grew up in Melvindale, Michigan, was a high school cheerleader, attended Michigan State University and worked at Detroit Edison in the payroll department. Although she knew George Horuczi from High School, they didn’t begin dating until their paths crossed again at Detroit Edison where he was a college engineering intern. They married on September 9, 1967. She became a mother to four children – Lisa Horuczi Markus (Denis), Amy Van Dusen (Stephen), George Horuczi and Jessica Hoke (Brion) – and focused on homemaking, volunteering for Riverview High School Football and Booster Club and joining a card club with ladies who became lifelong friends. At 44, she traveled with her daughter Lisa on a Circumnavigator Club Foundation Around the World Travel Grant – visiting Russia, England, France, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, India, and Singapore. When George died at age 49, Darlene held the family together and transitioned back to working outside but not far from home at the Riverview Highlands Golf Course.  She thrived as a grandmother to her 11 grandchildren: Emily, Jordan, Macy, Kassidy, Liam, Drayton, Charlie, Brooklynn, Grace, Connor, and Cameron. She is preceded in death by her parents James and Blanche Deuel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Center for Exceptional Families. Her cremation will take place at “The Witness Crematory” located inside of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home.
