Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy Havenstein wishes to announce her passing. Dorothy, age 79, of Flat Rock, MI, was extremely brave in her battle against lymphoma and passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on September 9th, 2022. She was the loving mother of Paul (Jennifer) Havenstein, Jessica (Doug) Richter, Danielle (Chris Madsen) Havenstein, and David (Shanna) Havenstein; dear grandmother of Stephanie, Ray, Philipp, Jaclynn, Meaghan, Nathalie, Ani, Emerson, and Indy; and beloved great-grandmother of RIV and Gigi. She is also survived by her brother George (Lynda) Ferguson, and was preceded in death by her parents, John and Audra Ferguson; siblings, Kenneth “Denver” Smith, Ronald “Ronnie” Ferguson, John David Ferguson, Marion “Frankie” Ferguson; and her newborn daughter.

Dorothy was born in River Rouge, MI, and raised in Romulus. After graduating from Huron High School in 1961, she moved to Flat Rock to raise her family, and then moved to Belleville in 2015. Dorothy enjoyed a wide variety of activities throughout her life, including bowling, playing slot machines, music (especially Elvis), cards and board games, and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to travel, with memorable trips on cruises and visits to Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Las Vegas, Jamaica, and most recently, New Orleans. The most important things in Dorothy’s life were her family and friends, and she took every opportunity to spend time with those she loved. She knew how much she was loved in return, and she will be missed more than we could have ever imagined.
