Obituary

Enid Carol Hammond, passed away following a brief illness at the age of 81 years on July 15th, 2023 at Dearborn Beaumont Hospital. During her final hours, she was surrounded by the people she loved. Enid “Carol” was born on July 3rd, 1942 in Seward, PA. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, partner, cherished friend, and active member of both the Michigan and Florida communities in which she lived. Her spunky personality and kind heart, touched the lives of everyone she met. Carol was known for her great sense of humor, generosity, unwavering love, support, and guidance. She dedicated her life to putting others first, made sure everyone felt welcome at social gatherings, and never allowed a guest to leave her home hungry. The last 12 years of her life were her happiest, spent with the love of her life, Richard Velky.

Carol’s legacy lives on through Richard Velky (along with his children and grandchildren), children; Wanda Sikina, Cliff Green, Tracy Henriksen, son-in-laws; Tom Sikina and Bill Henriksen, her grandchildren; Ian and Emma Sikina, and Blake Henriksen. She is preceded in death by her parents; Emma and Charles Kline, her husband; Doug Hammond, and her grandson; Grant Henriksen. Carol’s memory will forever be treasured by all family members and friends who were blessed with knowing her.

She will be buried next to her parents at the Michigan Memorial Cemetery. A Celebration of Life reception will be held on Sunday July 23rd, 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Elks Lodge #1731 located at 26917 Telegraph Rd., Flat Rock, Michigan. Friends and family are invited to attend, pay their respects, and share memories. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the UP Children’s Fund, a non-profit foundation created in the memory of her grandson, Grant. This organization held special meaning to Carol and contributions will continue to support the lives of children fighting cancer.
