George Elmon Hurley, beloved son, brother, uncle, and cherished dance teacher, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, in Southgate, Michigan. Born on March 3, 1975, in Man, West Virginia, he left this world at the age of 49, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and leadership.
From an early age, George possessed a passion for dance that would become the cornerstone of his professional life. As a dedicated dance teacher, he inspired countless students in the arts of jazz, tap, ballet, and lyrical dance. For George, the studio was not just a workplace, but a second home, and his students were like family to him. His joyous spirit and unwavering dedication enriched the lives of all who had the privilege to learn from and alongside him. His dance students were like his own children, a testament to his boundless capacity for love and leadership.
George's heart was as expansive as his talents, always open and giving to those around him. He loved nothing more than spending time with his dear sister Dawn attending Broadway shows or sharing the magic of Disney with others. His home, a tribute to his love for Disney, was a place where dreams came alive, He found immense joy in sharing this wonder, often taking friends and loved ones to Disney for the first time, ensuring their experience was unforgettable.
A true leader in every sense, George faced life's challenges, including a four-year battle with stage 4 cancer, with remarkable strength and an enduring smile. His selflessness and determination never waned; he continually prioritized the happiness and well-being of others, even during his own difficult times.
Preceding him in death were his father, Bruce Hurley, and grandmother, Geraldine Armstrong. George is survived by his loving mother, Sherry London, and his devoted siblings: Christina (Steven) Carson, Bruce (Stacie) Hurley, and Dawn (Bryan) Burke. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces, Merissa and Bryanna, and great-niece, Amira, who brought immense joy to his life.
