Obituary
Leo Hampton, born on October 29, 1933, in Weeksbury, Kentucky, passed away on July 17, 2026, in Tawas City, Michigan, at the age of 92.
Leo was a man of many passions and talents. He had an enduring enthusiasm for trains, which he pursued with great interest throughout his life. His love for the outdoors was evident in his gardening pursuits, where he found joy "playing in the dirt." A collector at heart, Leo amassed a remarkable collection of MG cars and various other treasures over the years. His mechanical skills were unmatched, earning him the reputation of a great mechanic among those who knew him.
Fishing and spending time on his speedboat were among his favorite pastimes, providing him with countless hours of enjoyment. Music was another of Leo's cherished interests, and he delighted in playing the banjo and guitar, sharing his love of music with family and friends.
Leo took immense pride in his involvement with Masonry, achieving the high rank of 32 degree and forming lasting bonds with fellow members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hassel and Dessie Hampton, as well as his beloved siblings and cherished pet parrot, Happy.
Leo is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Carolyn Hampton, who stood by his side through life's journey. He leaves behind his loving children: Marcia (Wayne) Anderson, Rodney Allen Hampton, and Laura Jean (late Christopher) Mannausa. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Brandon Wayne Anderson, Jason Michael Hampton, Ashley Ryan Hampton, Jennifer Renee Parsons, Trevor Bruce Mannausa, Christopher Ross Mannausa, and Sarah Katrina Hampton, as well as 15 great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy.
He will be fondly remembered by close friends Rebecca Sherrick, Jeff and Joleen Senn, Danielle Hindle, and Mary Lou Peacock, along with his dedicated caregiver, Brandy Lucas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, honoring Leo's generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
Leo Hampton will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.
