Obituary

Music and her family were passions throughout Matina (Tina) Hole’s life. The former downriver Detroit resident was a pianist, music teacher and active member of local downriver community theatre groups. Tina was born on Aug 6th, 1927, to William and Panagiota Papadogiannis in Chicago, Il. She had three sisters, Katherine and twins Dorothea and Violet. The four sisters remained close throughout their lives, spending over two decades living near each other in Michigan, taking turns hosting large family gatherings for every holiday and special event. Tina had a quick wit, and a lifelong passion for music and learning.Tina was a talented pianist, making her debut at Kimball Hall in Chicago at the age of 15. She graduated from the Chicago Musical College on August 6th, 1949, with a Bachelor of Music, where she studied under Dr. Rudolph Ganz. After graduation, she joined the faculty of The Austin Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago where she taught piano. In June 1953, she married Dr. William Hole and they moved to Trenton and later to Grosse Ile. Tina was a member and active with the choir of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Southgate. Although classically trained, Tina said her greatest pleasure was working with other “community theatrephiles”. She was part of countless productions, spending 5 years with the Trenton Community Theater, over 16 years with the Grosse Ile “Islanders”, and a year with the Little Traverse Civic Theatre. Another great pleasure while her kids were in school was playing for many Grosse Ile High School concerts and musicals. After retirement, she lived in Florida for 6 years, then Petoskey, MI and Harrisburg, PA before finally moving to San Antonio, TX for the last two years of her life to be closer to her daughter. She passed away on January 11th, 2022 at age 94.She is survived by her three children, Dr. William Avery of Minneapolis, MN; Dr. James Hole of Fresno, CA; Dr. Rebecca Hall of San Antonio, TX; her sister Dorothy Hailer formerly of Trenton, MI and now in Kenosha, WI; her grandchildren Robert Avery, James Avery, Morgan Avery, Claire Avery, Christopher Hole, Meghan Hole, Lily Edwards and Lauren Myatt; and many nieces and nephews and great grandchildren.
