Obituary

Ralph “Terry” Himes, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 31, 2026, in Taylor, Michigan. He was born on April 29, 1946, in Monroe, Michigan, and lived a life full of love and dedication for 80 years.

Terry spent his career as a welder in the fencing industry, where he was known for his hard work and craftsmanship. Outside of work, he was a man of many passions, especially the great outdoors. He found joy in fishing and hunting, often spending time on the lake up north, boating with family and friends. In his younger years, Terry loved camping and exploring the wilderness. His hands were never idle; he had a knack for fixing anything that needed repair. Terry also had a unique fondness for bells, collecting all kinds of them throughout his life. He was a man with a unique passion for cinema, particularly films that featured thrilling creatures and epic battles. His interests included movies with Big Foot, King Kong, Godzilla, Anaconda, Lake Placid, and the exhilarating Sharks vs Gators.

He cherished the simple pleasures, like rides on his side by side, searching for deer, and sharing these moments with those he loved. Family was at the heart of Terry’s life, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

Terry was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth LaFeve, and three siblings, Loren Himes, Sharon Vauter, and Larry Himes. He is survived by his loving wife, Emily Himes, who stood by his side for 61 years. His legacy continues through his children, Cheryl Convery, Kelly Horn, and Ralph (Dena) Himes Jr., and his grandchildren, Gerald Convery, M'Lynn (Zack) Convery, Kori (Cameron) Horn, Ralph (Lauren) Himes III, and Tyler Himes. Ralph also leaves behind great-grandchildren Brooklyn and Ethan, as well as his siblings Denise (Larry) Overholt and Ed (Mary) Cluck, along with many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Terry’s memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends. He lived a life filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering love for those around him.

  • Uncle Terry, To this day I remember the fun times at our “Uncle Terry’s House!!” Literally some of the best childhood memories I can think of. Having an extra 5 little visiting rug rats running around your house and yard getting into trouble was never an aggravation to you, it was joy! Mom didn’t think so… LOL she would say, ”Boys, stop that!” To which we replied, “Uncle Terry said we could..”. Ha Ha, we Loved saying that! I remember you were always playful with us and Full of laughter. Even more recent memories, when you drove over 8 hours to Tennessee, just to visit with those extra 5 rug rats who aren’t so little anymore… you were Full of laughter and Love. As an adult, I look back and see the sacrifices you made for your kids and family and relatives and anyone who was lucky enough to be your friend. Respect and Admiration will always be my thoughts of you Uncle Terry. I hope I was as Good of a Dad as you were. I love you and will miss you. Mark, Pam & Family
  • I know my dad greeted you with open arms. Please tell him he is loved and missed too. DEBBIE
