Obituary

Robert A. Hoffman, Jr., age 64 of Woodhaven, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2016. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hoffman Sr. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Karen; children, Melissa (Matt) Greer, Brian and Matthew; Mother Wanda; sisters, Mary (Andrew) Wierciak, Kathy (Guy) Laverdiere, Jan (Bill) Koenig and Lisa Hoffman; grandchildren, Brian Hoffman, Lukas Nolff, Ellie and Emma Greer; and several nieces and nephews. Robert was raised in Lincoln Park and Southgate, MI. The oldest of five, he grew up playing baseball with friends and continued that passion until his late 20s. Though he didn’t physically play any longer, Robert coached many teams for his kids and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. A season ticket holder and sports history aficionado, Robert spent many nights at Comerica Park with his family. There wasn’t a sport he didn’t like and shared that love with his sons.Robert was described as very hardworking and dedicated to his commitments. He was a natural in school and believed that education was the key to anyone’s future. He is an alumnus of University of Detroit Jesuit High School, received his collegiate degree in accounting from University of Detroit – Mercy and later received his CPA certification. He worked in Insurance Accounting through most of his life and held his final position of General Manager at Michigan Basic Property Insurance Association in Detroit. And though he kept busy with his full time employment and his tax business, nothing was more important than his family.Robert gave everything to his wife, children and grandchildren. Guidance and support were abundant, but what will be most missed is the gift of time. The family enjoyed many family dinners together and Dad was always the center of the room. Everyone who met him was instantly welcomed as a friend. He will be missed by many friends, former colleagues and his loving family.
