Obituary

Sandra Louise Hirata, a beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on November 5, 2025, in Taylor, Michigan. Born on December 7, 1944, in Allen Park, Michigan, she graced this world with her presence for nearly 81 years.

Sandra's life was marked by her generous spirit and kind heart. She lived in Moloka'i, Hawaii, for over 50 years, where her love for the islands and their people became a cornerstone of her life. Her compassion and selflessness were evident in everything she did, from always remembering birthdays and holidays to her time with the Peace Corps teaching English in the Philippines.

Her passions included knitting and crafting, hobbies that brought her joy and comfort. Sandra also cherished her collection of Hummel figurines, each piece a testament to her appreciation for beauty and detail.

Preceded in death by her loving husband, Kazumi Hirata, and her brother, Steve Balogh Jr., Sandra leaves behind a family who adored her. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Patricia Balogh-Tomlinson; nieces and nephews Constance (Glen) Davis, DDS, Catherine (Dan) Brooks, and Kenneth (Lea) Balogh; as well as many grand nieces, nephews, two great nieces, and numerous friends who will miss her dearly.

In honor of Sandra's giving nature, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or the Humane Society. Her generosity and love touched the lives of all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.

Condolences
