Scott David Hayes, 47, of Southgate, died on Saturday, February 20, 2016, due to injuries from a car accident. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 19, 1968.Scott leaves behind his beloved children, Taylor and Knox Hayes, and step-daughter, Tara Tubb. Scott’s loving partner of four years, Dana Lilly, and her son Quintin Griffor - along with his children - were the center of his world.Scott’s father, Earl Hayes, preceded him in death in 2006. Scott’s mother, Sandra (White) Hayes, brother, Dennis (Shirley) Hayes, and sister, Kimberly Hayes all survive Scott and miss him greatly. Scott had a very special and close bond with his nieces, Lisa Doublestein and Andrea Dekker and Godson and nephew, David Hayes. Scott was in a 20 year relationship (15 years married) to Nancy (Davis) Hayes.Scott’s friendships were abundant and brought him joy throughout this life. Scott cherished the close relationships he shared and was known to “do anything to help anyone” and “would give anyone the shirt off his back.”Throughout his life, Scott built an impressive professional career in law enforcement. He was proud to serve the Southgate Police Department for more than 23 years, two of which were as the Director of Information Technology, and retired as a Lieutenant. After retiring, Scott served the Detroit Police Department as the Director of Technical Services, a position he held for four years. In November 2015, he was promoted to the City of Detroit’s Director of Public Safety and Cyber Security.Scott was actively involved with the Downriver and Allen Park Chapters of the police motorcycle group Warthogs. He cherished the camaraderie and deep bonds with his fellow members.Michigan Memorial Funeral Home in Flat Rock is assisting the family. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 24 from 5 – 8 p.m. and Thursday, February 25 from 12 – 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, February 26 at 11 a.m., with a luncheon, hosted by the Downriver and Allen Park Warthogs, following the service and final ride at the Epicurean House at 3530 Biddle, Wyandotte. The Honor Guard will take place during each service with the combined efforts of the Detroit, Southgate, and several other downriver police departments.In lieu of flowers, donations to support Scott’s children are suggested. Checks can be made to Taylor and Knox Hayes and can be left at the funeral home or mailed to Nick Dekker, Attorney, Cunningham Dalman Law Firm, 321 Settlers Road, Holland, MI 49423 with Taylor and Knox Hayes in the memo.
