- I was once visiting Gera in the hospital when Ed began talking about making do with what he had back in the day. Remembering one of Gera's stories, I said, "Now wait a minute. I thought you were the only boy in town who had a car." Ed cracked a slow, playful smile, aware he'd been caught. He was often serious, but I enjoyed those times he could poke fun at himself. Ed, you were there for my husband throughout all the formative experience of his life. Playing with him, teaching him how to work on cars, helping him along the road to independence. You were proud of your grandchildren, and they knew it. You played so much a role in who Mike became. Thank you for fostering his analytical nature. Thank you for finding the joy in all of his toddler misadventures. Thank you for being ever-present, smiling down on your grandson as he blossomed into the husband and father he is today. You showed him what it means to be family. We hope to someday be the grandparents you and Gera were to Mike. I love you, Ed. Rest easy. Jenny Ward
