Obituary

Catherine Ann Johnson, born on March 9, 1941, in Alexander City, Alabama, passed away peacefully at the age of 84 in Taylor, Michigan, on June 4, 2025. Catherine lived a life filled with love, joy, and cherished memories.

She was a woman who embraced life's pleasures, finding joy in the simple act of entertaining family and friends. Her home was often the heart of lively card parties and memorable barbeques. Whether she was playing Spades or Bid Whist, her laughter and competitive spirit were infectious. Catherine enjoyed the thrill of the casino and the camaraderie found in playing cards and gambling with friends and family. Catherine had a passion for cooking, a skill she lovingly shared with those around her, often accompanied by her beloved old television shows like "Gunsmoke," "Dr. Pol," "Lassie," "Mike & Molly," and "Two and a Half Men."

For over 40 years, Catherine shared a deep and abiding love with her husband, Johnnie Johnson. Together, they created a warm and loving home that was a haven for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Known to many as "Granny Cat," she was not only a grandmother but a matriarch, celebrated for her generous spirit and the tremendous love she gave unconditionally.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Johnnie Johnson; her children, Paul Lovelace, Mary McKinnie, Lamont (LaShawn) Johnson, Katherine Lovelace, Angela (D’Wayne) Hayes, and Effie (Cliff) Lovelace-Holmes. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Amelia, Brandi, Jasmine, Brittani, Lamont "LJ,"  LaBrina, Davion, Dyontae, MaLeah and Tamia, as well as her precious great-grandchildren Xavier, Matilyn, Gabrielle, Gianna, and Genae.

Catherine is also survived by her sisters, Ethel Taylor and Nora (Hosea) Taylor, and lifelong friends Priscilla Rollins and Denise Harper, whom she considered sisters.

Preceding her in death are her beloved sons, Donald Lovelace, Christopher Lovelace, and David Johnson, her parents, Gaines and Ethel Johnson, and her siblings, Percy, Eunice, Mable, Geraldine, Winfield, Jack, and John.

Catherine's presence will be sorely missed, but her spirit will live on through the countless lives she touched. Her legacy is one of kindness, warmth, and unwavering love. May she rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family.
